When kids play Family Y Youth Sports, they learn the basics, improve skills, and make new friends! Because we want all children to have this fun, healthy opportunity to play, we make financial assistance available for all.
And to make it even more affordable, beginning in January 2014, Family Y Youth Sports are FREE (additional uniform fee) for our Metro Family Members. That means all the kids in the family can play and learn in our year-round youth sports programs, encouraging healthy family time and growing strong kids. Parents can get involved, too, as volunteer coaches.
Register now through June 29 for Fall Youth Soccer at the Wilson, Aiken County, North Jefferson (register July 14-Aug. 3), Augusta South, Marshall and Steiner Branch Family Ys. Soccer is offered for players ages 3-15. Registration fees are $60 for non-members (including uniform); $40 for Branch Members (including uniform); and FREE for Metro Family Members plus a $15 uniform fee.
The new South Augusta Y CrossFit has opened to become our third Family Y CrossFit facility in the CSRA. Now, Metro, Augusta South and North Augusta Family Y members can get on board the functional fitness train to reach their peak level of fitness. CrossFit training uses a regimen of constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity, individually or with a group. CrossFit athetes around the world follow a daily prescribed Workout of the Day (WOD), which can be adapted to meet anyone’s fitness level. “The Box” at the Augusta South Family Y, North Augusta Family Y AND the Wilson Family Y will host daily group workouts to introduce newcomers to the routine. CrossFit is a free member benefit for all Metro Members and for North Augusta Family Y members.
There is never a membership contract and financial assistance is available for all Y programs. To learn more about CrossFit, go to www.crossfit.com
The Family Y’s Camp Lakeside will be taking a break from camp this summer as we renovate to reopen in summer of 2015 as a camp experience for all children, regardless of their abilities. The Family Y of Greater Augusta, in partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, is upgrading Camp Lakeside to become the future home of the hospital’s medically-based summer camps, in addition to regular Family Y camp programming. The 100-acre lakefront camp, located on Lake Thurmond in Lincolnton, received a lead gift of $2 million from the Masters Tournament so that construction will begin this summer.
